Thanks for taking the time to read this primer.

In conjunction with the release of Arthurian Legends, a Constructed tournament was held on 7th October 2024 in Singapore. (Shoutout to Woon Jiun & Ya Qiong for organizing the fun event!)

The tournament uses the older deckbuilding rules -- minimum 40 spells + 20 sites.

Total of 4 rounds swiss, with each round being Best of 1 with a time limit of 1 hour.

Arthurian Legends cards are legal for use at the Constructed tournament.

This deck was inspired by two main sources:

Playstyle & Game Plan

This deck plays as a midrange deck that focuses on board control & high threat density.

Generally, the deck relies on Pathfinder to hit land drops every turn, so it is not uncommon for the deck to have 6 or more sites on the grid.

To take advantage of the large amounts of mana, the spell deck is packed with cards with high card quality.

This includes minion with high threat quality (Petrosian Cavalry/Panorama Manticore) & board control elements (Root Spider/Vile Imp/Pudge Butcher/Death Dealer).

Once your minions put the opponent at death's door, you can use projectiles or damage spells to close the game (Firebolts/Flame Wave/Craterize).

The deck is pretty versatile in adjusting its game plan when needed.

Against aggro decks, you can compete against them by prioritizing cheaper minions & removals (mulligan anything that costs 5 or more!).

Against other midrange/control decks, deploy your minions patiently to exhaust opponent's removals & board wipes, before taking control with the larger creatures (Panorama Manticore/Ancient Dragon/Death Dealer) & damage spells (Firebolts/Flame Wave/Craterize).

You like trapping your opponents with placement of minions (Pudge Butcher/Panorama Manticore/Ancient Dragon), damage spells & Jihad
You like a deck with late-game inevitability

Key Cards

Vile Imps: Efficient way of removing opponent's minions in the early game to make sure you can reach Turn 5, after which your board wipes and larger minions can take over.

Root Spiders: Countless primers have espoused the usefulness of the spider. Disabling opponent's best threats until you find a removal/board wipe is hard to ignore.

Pudge Butcher: Versatile card that limits the movement choices for opposing minions and Avatars. One of the best cards in the deck.

Bury: Effective removal.

Infiltrate: Taking control of enemy minions to close out the game can be unexpected for many opponents.

Fail-Not Bow: New card from Arthurian Legends that turn any minion you have into a fearsome threat. Sometimes you can win out of nowhere if the opponent runs far away only to be hit by a minion equipped with bow.

Earthquake: Extremely essential. On hindsight, I would have played another copy in place of a Royal Bodyguard.

Flame Wave: Flame Wave excels in wiping the board clean and also closing out games when the opponent is at death's door.

Briar Patch: This new site from Arthurian Legends makes it awkward for opposing minions to chase your Avatar.

Gnome Hollows/Free City: Both of these sites allow Pathfinder to seek refuge from larger threats and stall the game until you draw your board wipes.

Pillar of Zeiros: Important site for life gain and also stopping Deathspeaker decks from going ham with the cemetery.

Funeral Pyre: The new Arthurian Legends site is an additional site against opposing Deathspeaker decks.

Combos

The deck does not have any infinite combos. However, there are some synergies that are worth highlighting.

Panorama Manticore + Fail-Not Bow: Manticore with Bow can allow you to kill every minion on the board

Secret Tunnel + Root Spider: This classic "combo" allows you to traverse to most sites (depending on the placement of your sites) and stun enemy minions.
