Introduction + Acknowledgments

This deck is based on the original and AL edits to Fury Road from @Sorcelled.

I've been intrigued by Fury Road ever since @abarth, a fellow Beast of the Bay, showed up to a meetup with a copy of it. I kept modifying some parts of it to better fit my play style (adding [[Sinkhole]]s, removing things like [[Gigantism]]) and played it at Quest for the Crown to a top 4 finish, losing only to the aforementioned @abarth, who won that event. I further refined my decklist to what I played in the Finals of Yeticon 2025 vs. @Sorcelled.

This is my take on the deck. It is definitely crafted to my playstyle, so there are choices that are unique to me (i.e. no more [[Sleeping Giantess]], no need for Deserts, etc.). I welcome comments and feedback.

Sin City Open 2025 Tournament Result

There were 17 players in the Sin City Open 2025 event that took place in Las Vegas, Nevada on Friday, January 17, 2025.

Round 1: Win 1:0 vs. Justin Watte with [[Archimago]] (Earth/Air)

This game went a bit over time because we got started late. Justin put together quite a lot of pressure with [[Border Patrol]], and eventually I was on Death's Door with him having prevented me from getting him to Death's Door with a [[Root Spider]] for my pair of [[Brother Knight]]s. I had cleared most of the board when he got out [[The Ninth Legion]]. They were just too slow to catch up to my [[Sorcerer]] running around the board though, and I was able to drop Justin to 0, and finish up with the killing blow.

Round 2: Win 1-0 vs. Brian Vegso with [[Deathspeaker]]

I almost lost this game essentially on turn 1. Brian started the game with a turn 2 [[Thunderstorm]] placed right atop my avatar. Rather than play a second site in front of my avatar (because it would also still be subject to the aura), I played my second site to the left. I summoned a [[War Horse]], which picked up my Sorcerer and brough them to safety on the new site. This got me away from the storm, and let me still continue to build resources. A few turns later I had enough charge minions to take Brian to Death's Door, and then win the game.

Round 3: Win 1-0 vs. Jared Miller

Round 4: Win 1-0 vs. Neil Troy with [[Druid]] (Earth/Air)

We had tested this matchup just before the event, and it very much went in Neil's favor. In this round, however, Neil didn't draw enough early pressure, and I was able to pin down Tawny + a [[Bosk Troll]] with a [[Root Spider]] early in the game. This let me build up my mana, and then switch to 2 cards/turn mode, at which point I could start making more 1-for-1 and 2-for-1 trades of my own cards for the remainder of Neil's minions. Neil had an early Angel's Egg, so instead of spending my charge minions early to just get in for ~1 damage, I saved them for getting rid of Neil's minions, and for future assaults. In discussing the game right afterwards, Neil and I settled on this being an example of properly assessing who's the beatdown. By establishing myself in a more control role, I was able to better utilize my cards to neutralize the few threats being presented. I eventually drew into a [[Morgana Le Fay]], which gave me a [[Ring of Morrigan]]! Morgana eventually helped with removing the [[Angel's Egg]], which allowed me to quickly drop Neil to 0.

Thoughts

[[War Horse]] remains one of the best cards in the deck, almost singlehandedly being responsible for my win in round 2. Charge minions are powerful (and [[Pebbled Paths]] are plentiful), so finding other interesting spots to leverage their speed is critical. I am less convinced of the powers of [[Redcap Powries]], hence already having cut them to 2. [[Sinkhole]] remains very effective for me, and there was definitely a point where I was able to destroy a site, fill it in with a new site of my own, and charge forward.

I won a sweet Superbowl-style ring with a Pathfinder on it that says "Sin City Open 2025 Sorcery Champion". I also selected an event-stamped [[The Colour Out of Space]] and got it signed by some of the other folks who were there. I wore the ring for the Old School event the next day as well.
