Archetype: Midrange Tempo slide Controly

i was surprised how versatile the list was in my first games and so I stuck with it. I have a MTG background the deck remained me on the caw/blade in standert ore the caw/gate of the pauper format and I like this kind of decks very much. The deck can play a very good tempo game ore if needed a solid grindy control like game. The first that you have to learn is which position do you have to take in every game depending on your opponent’s avatar. Do you have to play an aggressive tempo game ore do you take the slower part and build you board up to press the button later. This deck is very rewarding if you can take the game and loosing is always a lesson to take. In all my games I had not the feeling that this match was not winnable. I thing you should know if you want to play a list like this is, that the deck do not carry the player.

wirh the release of gothic the philosophy of the deck swings more into control. The new water cards are so good that you can play a solid control game and use your avatar to build board presents rather then go all in with him.

The following entries are some kind of journal to track the evolution of this deck. I try my best to cover all bigger events that I play in and try to summarize all thought about my changes.

the Kredo of this deck is Value wins games and consistency is key,

after the release of gothic I hade some time to play the new cards. The new deck leans more more in water then ever after the power creep in gothic. The Main strategy for the deck shifted from a tempo game plan to a more midrange control strategy, this is possible because of the very good forced movement on good creatures with good stats like abaddon succubus and coy nixie to lure the opponets minions on sub optimal sites like thin ice, troll bridge ore river rapids. To round it up we got good value creatures like questing beast that we have bevor from Al ore the blue knight, in gothic we got order of the sacred oak, sacred stag ore hyperparasite like a second bullfrog that can use its Effekt multiple times now you get the opportunity to trade better then ever with you bm. Failed mutation and lord of lies are out includes for me. The main game plan is to land 4-5 sites stabilized the board through the force movement and value creatures use the bm later in the game to get the value and save your minions to not die to trades. The only think at this point I want to figure out the ratio of some cards ore if I want to play them at all like plague of frogs very good with the rule ore to place a swap target, good with kiss of Judas because they have to only attack not do dmg to draw cards. The sites have not change at all the only changes are that I only play on of each tower cut observatory and one of each bubbling brook and bayou to make space for the thin ice and the double threshold sites. I will test the list more to prepare for the upcoming sorcery fest in the Netherlands this July.

with the release of gothic I take a break to testing out the new cards and shape the deck list. I will update the list in days and this will be significant to the play style of the deck. Water is so good now and the result form my latest tournament shows that I always enjoyed more the control Aspekt of the deck then the tempo game plan, but wasn’t there.

got crushed at the cornerstone event may change a lot ^^

got bad draws and matchups all day long, I could say that a have played bad. My opponents had the better cards go 0/5 but at least I got the playmate for the last place 😂. I will go back with my list the eggs were not bad but I don’t need them that much. On this event was water a very bad matchup for me, who had has thought ghost ships were so good.

Crossroads European championship Gelsenkirchen

went 4/3

Game 1 VS BM Air-Water lose against an early ruler play on turn 3 from that i can not recover. And to a rules miss known that you can hit the minion inside of a bull frog

Game 2 VS Sorcerer Earth-Fire Win i think this is a good matchup for the list i got early advantige through the bm, also ring is a good card ^^

Game 3 VS Pathfinder Mono Fire lose this was devastating early jihad and he run me down no chance for me to get back

Game 4 VS Elementalist Mono Water Win it was a back and forth, marinas curse is a good card against non submurge minions to held them back. got him with and well time sir Pellias and an axe

Game 5 VS Spark Mage Mono Air Win this was a free win i got in and i think my oponent had not known how to play the Sparkmage

Game 6 VS Seer Water-Air Win win through a very good hand with bog, cat and a grapple shot so i move in with 3 sits in play and hit him Hard with the cat and the BM

Game 7 VS AoA lose i do not found any removal against the sir that heals got him to 4 life and then he found the ring and the sir. pretty tight play on the Aoa from him.

Conclusion-

I would say the field was pretty though all the grinders from all over europ were there. For the testing and play time that i have i would say i have donne a pretty good job on the crossroad. But i would make changes to the list cutting the highland Falconer packed it does to little i would add the two phaseassassins back and 2 bullfrogs cut the flaming sword becouse it is a to havey resource investment and add the shrine of dragons thinking about adding poisonous dagger to kill bigger minions ore on the way white whirling blades adding more disable stuff. The MVP of the weekend was swap it is a hell of a card i played 2 copys thanks to my buddys, they have done so manny in every situation defensly ore aggressive, if you not have try it i highly recomend it. All in all it was a blast of a weekend.

from a testing session with my team mates I cut the 2 phaseassassins for 2 polar explorers, the fact that I cut the mixes makes them in my opinion worse to play them on turn 3. I also consider to cut one magic missals for a swap. In most cases I do not need the projectiles to hit the avatar on dd and never played them as an removal piece so I try swap out.

adjusting my list for the up coming crossroads event in Gelsenkirchen Germany

major changes are pillar of zyros splash for some healing options, saw the finals of the crossroads at gen con and was amazed from the play to heal back up to 19 life. Cut the feast for and the brows for some hard removal like cast into exile to get rid of 5 power minions without trading with my minions.

i think the deck to beat are all kinds of Druid builds so i tweak my list in this way, I struggle against archi and sorce I hope to out speed them with the new rules changes involving strike. Dropping screaming skull and the helm for 2 grim axts, I’m considering the masks but at this point in time I’m not very high on them.

Game 1 VS Archi in Air-Fire-Earth Win through a tought tempo game to get him to DD from 15

Game 2 VS Sorce Fire-Air lose i struggle against the more aggro decks but back breaking was that an owl with 2 madling bells sits infront of my face

Game 3 VS Enchantres 3c win steam rolled over played only 3 sites and get into with an early lubog cat and the BM

Game 4 VS Arch earth-water los game looks good until he shapeshift into an old great one on 4 manage to disable him for 1 turn but he pulled 2 divin healing and got hit 2 times for 16 had no drawn hard removal

Game 5 VS Sorce Air-Earth win pretty thought game stuck on a really bad hand but play it very carefully got hit from a 10 power vamp and a 2 time use of divin but my minion count was pretty good to get him from 20 to 5 and then to dd. Last hit come from a ring in combination of good movement.

Top 8 1st Match VS Druide mono Fire lose got a good start but twany cast to many removals and cant get advantage. So he rolled over me. I think I could have played more slowly and play more sits I guess to swarm out and save some of my minions. But this mono fire Druid got me off guard and tawny is very annoying.

over all conclusion it was a blast to play the event was pretty satisfied with the deck and my play over alle the 2 loses i got in swiss were not changeable through play patterns.

I was very surprised about the good record of the Zoo Templar player that got 4/5 place.....it seems Turnamnte grounds is a good site ^^

in the end the mono fire Druid got 1st and the AoA got 2nd. I’m pretty happy about my dispels and the 8 booster that I win over the day.

to the recent rule changes for the BM to proc on strikes I swapped 1 trinket for 1 flaming sword. I play it in the past for a view games but it doesn’t feel good but now with the changes it can be back breaking with the potential to draw multiple cards. I also want to try more vamps. I consider to trop the philo for a 2nd core, I think it could be better in this kinda deck I’m building. I’m thinking about to cut the towers to one each to fit in some wizards dens to get more card advantage.

New Changes, the big problem was that i struggelt against the faster decks like aggro so i added troll bridges to cut them off. i cut the hounds becaus i got the feeling that there are only good when im ahead so i bring in the 2 blades to clear the board with 5 manas. I added the speer and the helm to get the oportunity to trade better with my BM and the vampieres to hold me in the game. i reconized that air born is imba in the most matches. In july im in essen to play my next bigger turnament and will twike the list further.

Sorcery Fest Netherlands (Trolls of the realm)

played 6 round of Swiss at the sorceryfest in the Netherlands and got a record of 3/3. I made huge miss plays that cost me 2 games but in the aftermath I would say every game was winnable for me. I work on the list further , 1 change I would make is to get the W. Blades into the main board and cut the mix. In all games I have played the mix it Hase not do the thing it should.

The lists are very different at this point of time. i realised that we both come to the same conclusions on a few cards. I want the deck to play a very good Tempo game to keep the preasure high in the early game and to have a good Variety of removal for the late game to handel 4 power plus minions and have access to repeatable dmg through the ring of morigan. In most cases i tutort the ring to get extra dmg and life leach to hit with the bm.

the difference between our lists is that i added the trinked hammer to trade 4 power minions with my battle mage without sacrifice a minion like a lubbog cat to hold preasure on the board.
