I've come down on [[Gift of the Serpent]] just a little bit. While it's a great cantrip to include in aggressive fire decks, there seem to be a lot of airborne or ward minions right now and it doesn't help a lot with those unless you have exactly [[Quarrelsome Kobolds]] or [[Colicky Dragonettes]] in addition to the Gift. Similarly, I am considering [[Màzuj Ifrit]] as a way above cost aggressive beater that also provides some more airborne.
I'm also seriously considering cutting [[Ring of Morrigan]]. I lose the healing with my own [[River of Blood]] and with 3 copies of [[Toolbox]] and [[Searing Truth]] we're not exactly hurting for Death's Door finishers here. It is nice at popping wards, but still that usually requires moving my avatar forward when I don't always want to. There has also been an increase in copies of [[Swap]] and [[Toolbox]] gives every deck ways to answer the Ring. Obviously it's still an objectively powerful card, and the presence of answers for it is not a good reason not to play it, but I feel like it's a slot that could be better used for my strategy.
Added back the 3rd copy of [[River of Blood]] after learning that they do stack.

Cut [[Firebreathing]] for [[Sir Mordred]]. I feel like having removal to kill individual big minions matters more right now. Firebreathing was bad against ward minions, bad against a lot of the new larger threats, and bad against random cards like having a [[Sturmgeist]] near your avatar.

Cut 1 [[River of Blood]] for an [[Accursed Desert]]. I figure that River of Blood isn't necessarily something you want to draw in multiples anyway, and ward is quickly proving to be one of the most important things in the game. This could be better as a copy of [[Vast Desert]] with the ability to pick off small bodies or help stack damage to kill a minion, but I want to test Accursed Desert for that potential upside to pop multiple wards.
I am also considering cutting [[War Horse]] entirely. The card sometimes feels very weak, but it's also overall very important to the structure / goal of the deck so I am keeping it for now.

Cut [[Doctor Demetrius]]. Overall I think this card is great still, I just think not being able to ward skeletons makes Doctor Demetrius a bit too poor in this list in simplified game states.
Cut one [[Gift of the Serpent]]. I felt like I was drawing too many cantrips and felt okay with being at 3 overall including the collection copy.
Cut the [[Infernal Legion]]. Obviously this card is great but I decided I wanted the 3rd [[Searing Truth]] and wanted to make the deck more lean overall.
Added an old favorite [[Polar Explorers]] to help keep pressure up against decks that play cards like [[Pebbled Paths]] and [[Gnome Hollows]]. This also helps lower the overall mana curve.
Trimmed one [[Firebreathing]] for [[Into the Abyss]]. Firebreathing felt poor in many situations as there are a lot of big dudes being played right now many of which have ward. I wanted something to serve as a 3rd hard removal spell alongside [[Infiltrate]].
Made several changes to the atlas. [[Altar of Malachai]] is a super powerful card and I can see myself adding it back, but ultimately I wanted to sure up my mana base and felt that card was cuttable due to the overall aggressive tilt of the deck. Added more copies of [[Active Volcano]]. Between [[Floodplain]] and [[Active Volcano]], the idea is to have more opening hands with my threshold requirements met without needing to top deck the right one or draw sites at awkward times. Also cut [[Valley of Delight]] as I feel this card is no longer necessary with the addition of the double threshold sites.
A few collection changes: Cut [[Just a Rock]] because it doesn't deal with the Omphalos and really only covers what [[Swap]] already does. Cut [[Instigator Imp]] because it's just not good enough for constructed I think. Added [[Hamlet's Ablaze!]] as an out to cards like [[Pebbled Paths]] and [[Gnome Hollows]] and added [[Sand Worm]] as an out to [[Root Spiders]] but considering [[Sea Serpent]] instead to combat the [[Coy Nixie]] + [[Thin Ice]] stuff and we already have answers to the spider in [[Geyser]] and [[Floodplain]].

-1 [[The Great Famine]], -1 [[Redmane Hyena]], +1 [[Doctor Demetrius]], +1 [[The Inquisition]]
Cut [[The Great Famine]] because it is poor against warded minions, which is something I want to be able to deal with. [[The Inquisition]] serves as somewhat of a removal spell, and I think is just a great card overall in more aggressive fire decks. It also has a mini combo with [[Searing Truth]] if you reveal it you can play it for free. Also trimmed a [[Redmane Hyena]] to make room for [[Doctor Demetrius]]. This is a card I've been wanting to play for awhile to help protect my board from spells like [[Earthquake]] and [[Poison Nova]]. I still like [[Redmane Hyena]] but think overall it's one of the weaker cards in the list. I am contemplating cutting the second one for [[Aino]]. Still also considering [[Pnakotic Manuscript]] over [[Pendragon Banner]].

Overview

The idea of this list is to refresh my favorite, and very first Sorcery deck - Steam Druid. In playing constructed MTG for years, I learned that as new sets are released and people begin brewing decks, a good starting place is to evaluate which archetypes from the previous season may carry over into the new one, and what new tools they might have gained. Given that metagames are highly contextual, this doesn't always work out. However, Fire and Water still have the most efficiently costed Charge minions, and busted Uniques.

One of the biggest differences between this deck and the Steam Druid decks of old is that we don't have reliable access to a spellcaster every turn with the [[Druid]] / [[Tawny]] nerf, which means we cannot reliably cast cards like [[Disintegrate]], [[Pollimorph]], and perhaps most importantly, [[Lava Flow]]. While this is a significant change, I think this archetype of busted Steam cards will do just fine going forward. I won't go through every single card here. By now, it's no secret how strong cards like [[Plague of Frogs]] are in combination with other powerful cards such as [[Sir Agravaine]], [[Boudicca]], and [[Ruler of Thul]]. We also all know by now that Charge minions like [[Redcap Powries]] and [[Monstrous Lion]] are really strong. Instead, I will talk about what is new here, and how our new Avatar, [[Necromancer]] fits into the picture.

I will offer a hot take - Necromancer is at least as good as Druid ever was. There, got that out of the way. Being able to generate a body every single turn while also developing your sites is incredibly powerful. The questions that need answered are: How can we take advantage of the resources that Necromancer generates? And, how do the existing Steam cards help us do that? Gothic gave us many build-around-skeletons cards in Earth and Air, so why Fire and Water? For one, all of the previously mentioned busted Steam uniques that combo well with Plague of Frogs also combo well with skeleton tokens. Additionally, creating an army of skeletons is inherently aggressive, which is a game plan that Fire and Water support perfectly. Lastly, there are some new cards from Gothic that help fill some of the gaps left by the Druid nerf.

New additions from Gothic

We've briefly covered Necromancer, but there are a few other new cards from Gothic that I'd like to cover.

[[Toolbox]] is incredible. It provides access to [[Minor Explosion]] which is absolutely critical, and half of the reason to play this card. Additionally, it provides access to more removal with cards like [[Just a Rock]], [[Angry Mob]], [[Instigator Imp]], [[Boil]], and [[Extinguish]]. Or, perhaps we need graveyard interaction in [[Return to Nature]], or want to play around an opposing [[Poison Nova]] and cast [[Baptize]] to protect a minion or two. Or, perhaps we simply want a Charge minion in [[Petrosian Cavalry]] to apply pressure in a simplified game state. Toolbox does all of this while allowing us to keep the mainboard lean.

[[Redmane Hyena]] is here for a few reasons. For one, it is a beast that fits in well with our [[Pond]] package. More importantly, it offers some additional graveyard hate against the [[Archimago]] decks of the world, and the many other new graveyard shenanigans from Gothic such as [[Grigori Rasputin]]. Even if our opponent isn't planning on playing out of their graveyard, the Hyena helps clear out minions from the opponents grave to make [[Boneyard]] one sided.

[[Sacred Stag]] is one of my favorite cards from Gothic. On rate it's a very solid minion. It's also yet another beast that we can play ahead of curve with [[Pond]]. However the real reason for including the Stag is the Ward it comes with, providing us a minion that is resilient to an opposing [[Poison Nova]] or can simply represent card advantage in combat.

I almost created an entire section in this primer for [[Gift of the Serpent]]. The floor here is turning our skeletons into removal spells that cantrip. The ceiling is turning [[Infernal Legion]] into a one sided board wipe that cantrips. Additionally, it combos well with some of the usual suspects such as [[Collicky Dragonettes]], [[Quarrelsome Kobolds]], and [[Sir Agravaine]]. As I mentioned, we lost access to several powerful removal spells with the Druid nerf - Gift of the Serpent helps fill that gap while maintaining some of the card advantage element of the previous Steam Druid decks. It's worth mentioning that while this is a very effective way of dealing with ground minions, it means that large Airborne minions can still be a challenge. This is the primary reason for playing double [[Panorama Manticore]] over [[Askelon Phoenix]], and also means we still need [[Infiltrate]] as a hard removal option. All of that said, Gift of the Serpent may look strange on the surface, but I promise that it will impress you. There's a reason the fourth copy is in the Collection.

[[Searing Truth]] is one that I think most people recognized as powerful when it was previewed, and it certainly is that. It's card draw and a Death's Door finisher all in one card. However, after playing with this card, I learned a few things. First off, this card is not always good in game states where you are behind, which is why I play 2 copies instead of 3. The self damage can be too much leaving it stuck in your hand in many situations. With that said, if your deck is built aggressively, and has at least somewhat of a lean, low to the ground mana curve, this card is an excellent inclusion. This deck has a few painful cards to reveal such as [[Infernal Legion]], but ultimately we are designed here to keep the opponent on the back foot, which means that Searing Truth should help us more than hurt us.

[[Swap]] isn't really a new card. Hopefully this isn't as much of a hot take as my earlier statement, but it's one of the most powerful Water spells in the game. That being said, Necromancer some how pushes this card further over the top by giving us a guaranteed body every turn to Swap around with our opponents minions, or even more fun - stealing an opposing [[Ring of Morrigan]] or [[Key to the City]].

[[Altar of Malachai]] is extremely powerful. Changing the math on "who dies first?" when both players are at Death's Door is a one of a kind effect in Sorcery, and Necromancer ensures that we can set aside a disposable minion to sacrifice for it. Similarly, [[Temple of Moloch]] gives us a Phyrexian Tower to convert skeletons into more expensive spells ahead of curve. You can even use it to sacrifice opposing minions that you [[Infiltrate]]. We want to position both of these sites further back if we can, especially Temple of Moloch, since it's a symmetrical effect.

There isn't much that needs to be said about [[River of Blood]]. Since this is an aggressive deck, we want to ensure our opponents can't use [[Divine Healing]] to undo the work we've done. There could be metagames where you don't need this card, but for now I am including it to cover my bases.

A few honorable mentions for old cards:

[[Torshammar Trinket]], [[Pendragon Banner]], and [[Drums of Doom]] all serve to make our skeletons and other cheaper bodies more threatening. With Banner and Drums, you will want to carry these on a Stealth minion such as [[Sir Agravaine]], or carry them on your Avatar and take a step forward.
[[Firebreathing]] is doing some work to fill the gap left behind by [[Lava Flow]]. We no longer have [[Tawny]] to reliably cast Lava Flow deep in enemy territory, but we do have a significant number of Beasts and Dragons which allow us a similar effect.

A few cards that I wanted to play, but couldn't find room:

[[Pnakotic Manuscript]] clearly combos very well with Necromancer. Ultimately, I decided to go with [[Pendragon Banner]] to lean more aggressively, but I could see working this card in one day.
[[Aino]] is just an all around very strong card. I simply could not find room for her but is one that's still up for consideration.
Similar to Aino, [[Doctor Demetrius]] I think is just a generally strong card. Ward is an incredibly powerful ability and very important in minion heavy strategies to protect your board from [[Poison Nova]]. This is the card I want to make room for the most.

Wrapping up

I'll just quickly cover some strengths and weakness of this deck.

Strengths:

Aggressive and proactive. Sets the tempo of the game and asks your opponent if they have the proper answers.
Mana efficient - Necromancer helps ensure that we are using our mana each turn.
Effective at generating card advantage. Some games we will just make an army of skeletons, which often requires our opponent to use resources from their hand without us having to do the same to create pressure. We also play cards like [[Gift of the Serpent]], [[Vile Imp]] and [[Quarrelsome Kobolds]] which create card positive exchanges.
No clear / direct counter. While our plan A is to be aggressive, it can play any kind of game well enough. [[Toolbox]] also gives us access to sure up match ups that might be unfavorable.
Sometimes you just win with those busted Steam uniques like [[Plague of Frogs]], [[Sir Agravaine]], [[Boudicca]] and [[Ruler of Thul]].

Weaknesses:

Hard control decks. A deck that can consistently deal with our threats using cards like [[Poison Nova]] or [[Earthquake]] can be problematic. With that said, it's equally important that those decks have pressure of their own to follow up with, otherwise Necromancer will continue to apply pressure.
Bigger midrange decks. Decks that play a mix of removal and bigger minions, especially Airborne minions, I can see being a problem for this deck. Still, I think this deck has the tools to win match ups like that even if it's not favorable.
