If you’re wondering “Why not card X?” Well…I’ve been playing this game for less than a month if you can believe it. I fell in love with the game and dove right in. During the event I traded my tickets for AL packs and opened the ring you see in the list at the end of round 4!!! I was so excited =). No Decklists…so in it went. Edit: I was asked to add a note to the primer. Judges were aware that I replaced a card in the middle of our no decklist tournament that wasn’t at compREL. Is it technically allowed? I honestly don’t know. I wasn’t shy about how excited I was and was telling everyone around me though =)

There were a lot of cards that didn’t really come into play much, but the early game and the repeated value are the core of the deck. We can play 1:1 removal because we’re going to get SO much value out of our cards. The mill sites were amazing. Observatory plus rats is incredible. Archangel Michael and Gargantula along with grandmaster wizard and master necromancer are our all star value cards to play from the cemetery.

The bolts and gifts were very often used to surprisingly put our opponent to door when they least expect it, doing 10 or more quite suddenly in one turn using the skeletal mages.

I’ve already taken the silver bullets out. Added a shrine of the dragon lord picked up at the event and making room to bump apprentice and novice back up to 4. Removed Gall as well. My opponents just weren’t using their collections enough, although I could see those coming back later in the year.

I want to try the 6 cost angels but I’m just trying to stay VERY focused on our plan at the moment and they don’t do anything from our cemetery.

My first 3 rounds all involved root spiders. I read the card before the event but didn’t realize so many people play these things. They constantly locked down angels, but I still found a way to chip damage and close with blots plus zap. After my third round I brainstormed with my opponent how to kill root spiders and all we could come up with is a burrowed rat with gift of the wolf for now. Every time I drew a toolbox I made sure to ask myself “should this just be zap or do I need it now”.

Water opponents are a problem. I lost to Mitch who played an unanswered Lilith into Pied Piper, two cards I didn’t even read before the event. After reading pied piper I just said “uh…yeah okay, I’m gonna go walk the hall. Congratulations.” lol…maybe I should have toughed it out, but he had already lured a unit, got a hit off of Lilith and established a frontline of troll bridge and thin ice. It was round 5 and I made the choice to relax before the last round.

6 rounds of Sorcery was incredible. I would repeat that day several times over if given the choice. I’ll definitely be back! Thanks for reading =)

Things I want to try next: I want to find some more room for top end. We can get a bit grindy with our tiny dudes and have some trouble closing. The bolts and gifts are really important for pushing damage but a touch more top end or mid could help. I want to try splashing red, but I feel like the double threshold sites really reward us for playing two elements right now with these powerful angels and triple threshold cards like gargantula. I do see how the red cards could give more closing power though. I didn’t like the tap requirement of silver bullets and the fact that we only have 2. I’m not sure what else to do with our collection yet but honestly it could just be 10 ordinaries.

I also want to try playing all of the cores with the red splash and the tri sites to have more access to playing from the opponents cemetery. ATM I do think the consistency of two elements is worth it.
