Ill tidings on the wind herald destruction. War is coming to the realm, and nowhere is safe.

Portents of Destruction is a different take on [[Harbinger]], relying heavily on aggressive play and taking advantage of the more random nature of the game's setup. It revolves around building off of your opening positions however you can, using cards like [[Ominous Owl]], [[Blink]], and [[Waypoint Portal]] to give you full control of the board. It is a deck that will struggle into water control, given the many means they have to neutralize aggression, but it still has enough different options to keep you in the fight.

Openers:

Your openers will be heavily dependent on where you roll your locations. Generally, I break this down in either a forward, neutral, or backward start. Forward gets you quicker access to your opponent's avatar, backward gives you bonuses on your side of the map, and neutral is a mix or more central. We have tools for each of these, but you'll want to think about which game state is most likely to develop as a result.

Forward: In this case, you'll want to prioritize cards like [[Cornerstone]], [[Cursed Land]], and potentially [[Vesuvius]] to play on your opponent's side of the board. If you don't have a [[Cornerstone]] for early aggression, prioritize Voidwalk minions that you can use for pressure. If you're lucky enough to land on their starting square, consider aiming for a Charge minion to apply even more pressure.

Neutral: In this type of opener, you'll want to prioritize more defensive site placements, valuing cards like [[Mountain Pass]] and [[Perilous Bridge]] more than before. You can establish center control, taking advantage of your lower cost once per turn to stay ahead of the curve, while keeping threat with any forward sites that you may have rolled.

Backward: It always feels bad. That said, your Voidwalk minions still create some offensive threat. You'll want to be careful with cards like [[Perilous Bridge]] in this configuration, as you can find yourself less able to play forward with Charge minions. Take advantage of your lower cost to cast minions to get things like [[Ominous Owl]] out early, then use them to establish your forward foothold.

Card Breakdown: A quick overview of each card and its purpose.

[[Summoning Sphere]]: Great aura to give a bit of consistency and widen your area of threat.

[[Sphere of Animosity]]: Provides a means of effectively closing the game, and can be played effectively early if you have a forward position. Just be mindful of [[Disenchant]] or [[Dispel]] coming out of a [[Toolbox]] in response.

[[Char Omphalos]]: Play with center control, and enjoy the extra draw.

[[Ominous Owl]]: Allows you to build on your foothold, particularly in forward positions.

[[Flaming Skull]]: Airborne feels really nice, as does the spellcasting ability.

[[War Horse]]: A tremendous card in the deck. Use it to help position other allies with summoning sickness.

[[Barging Barghest]]: A powerful Voidwalk minion for pressure, and high mobility. I would not mulligan if you have one.

[[Gibbous Nightgaunts]]: Same as above.

[[Phantom Steed]]: Same as above.

[[Phase Assassin]]: Best used to put pressure on the enemy avatar. Constantly re-upping Stealth when entering the void is incredibly powerful.

[[Redcap Powries]]: Powerful charge minions, but reliant on positioning. You'll want to have a good sense of game state and your enemy's defensive options to avoid these imploding themselves.

[[Stagecoach]]: Use it to bring your whole army to the fore. Super strong in conjuction with a [[Blink]] or [[Mad Dash]] to do large repositions.

[[Gyre Hippogriffs]]: Another mobile and powerful Charge option.

[[Hotwheel]]: Super dependent on positioning, but can be a clutch win condition.

[[Petrosian Cavalry]]: Powerful charge minion.

[[Saracen Raiders]]: Better charge minion.

[[Sir Lamorak]]: Can be a powerful denial tool, or played forward to place direct threat on the enemy avatar.

[[Hounds of Ondaros]]: Absolutely incredible units. Never mulligan.

[[Roaming Monster]]: They give you pressure all across the map. My only issue is the mana cost.

[[Lord of Fear]]: Powerful in direct combat, but limiting the opponent's ability to defend is extremely powerful in a deck like this. A surprise [[Lord of Fear]] into a [[War Horse]] can end the game.

[[Ultimate Horror]]: It's here because it's flavorful as heck, and can be a solution to turn things around late game. Bringing back multiple Voidwalk minions can give you some much needed breathing room.

Magic:

[[Blink]]: Mobility and draw.

[[Mad Dash]]: See above

[[Tactical Move]]: No draw, but incredible movement.

[[Vanishment]]: Stealth prevents defending, and it gives you draw.

[[Waypoint Portal]]: On the fence about keeping, but can come in handy in super niche situations if your rolls were bad.

[[Major Explosion:]] Great AOE denial and damage.
